OUR STORY
Foundation
Way back in 1948, James Francis Walsh (JF Walsh), an entrepreneur from Roscrea, Co. Tipperary, decided there was a need for a printing service in the town. He established Walsh Printers Roscrea just off the main street (where it remains today, run by James’s son Desmond).
A new generation brings growth
Today, JF Walsh Packaging Chairperson Shauna Walsh (daughter of Des and granddaughter of James) and continues to manufacture environmentally friendly paper bags in Roscrea, Co. Tipperary. Initially bolstered by the 2002 environmental levy on plastic bags in Ireland, JF Walsh Packaging has maintained steady growth under Shauna's management, and has continued to provide employment to the local community in Roscrea. In recent years, growth has also driven by demand for packaging which recycled and recyclable as well as being compostable. The fact that JF Walsh Packaging's paper bags are locally produced is a further advantage, as the keen understanding of the needs of Irish businesses is complemented by a product that supports Irish jobs and has less transport emissions to get to the final customer. Today, JF Walsh packaging is one of the largest paper bag manufacturers in Ireland, producing a high percentage of all paper bags supplied to the pharmacy, fast food, off licence, fashion and retail industries in Ireland.
In 2023 JF Walsh Packaging joined the Packaging Holdings group

Shauna & Des R.I.P
Chairperson
Shauna Walsh, the dedicated owner-manager of JF walsh made the strategic decision to sell her ownership stake in April 2023 and transition into the role of Chairman within the organization. Her deep industry knowledge and leadership will now be channelled into guiding the company's vision and growth as she retains a significant shareholding in Packaging Holdings. This transition reflects her commitment to the company's long-term success and her unwavering dedication to its future endeavours.
On the 29th of May 2023 we lost Des the entrepreneur, after a life of remarkable success in the paper and print industry in Roscrea, he passed away, leaving behind a lasting legacy of innovation and economic growth. Des's vision and dedication continue to shape the town's industrial landscape, a testament to their enduring impact on the community.
